It's still in the ds family though just because they branded the first dual screen. I'm tired of ds, I want something different.

Yeah in the same way PS3 is in the Playstation family or Xbox 360 is in the Xbox family, yet no one is complaining about those. 3DS is an actual advancement over the DS, they share the same basic idea, like more or less every console upgrade except the Wii which was extremely different to the Gamecube and the original DS to the GBA, but they actually make it a new console, unlike the DSi was, which was just a regular DS with some slight improvements but still mostly the same hardware.

I think the DS idea works fine, and I'll be happy if they just upgrade it each time, but I do wish they'd stop making small upgrades the current model and releasing them all, we don't need 5 different types of 3DS, they should just keep any of these small ideas which they'll label as "new" and keep them for the actual brand new handheld they release next time.

I may not deserve to live, but I will protect those in my reach with my reverse blade!

Nintendo tries to sell everything as a gimmick, and it works most of the time. Dual Screen is a gimmick, but they're just adding more gimmicks to it and keeping it with it's own nature if that makes sense.

I wish they would make a new handheld that ran off a wireless mobile network as well as wifi. The catch would probably be like the 360 membership plans though, which I would be fine with.

I hate it when things are called gimmicks. Anything new might as well be called a gimmick.

Anyway, pros and cons of the XL.

Pro's -
Bigger screens
Longer battery life
Start, select and Home changed to actual buttons
Stylus moved from back to side
Raised bottom screen no longer leaving line on top screen (Maybe)

Cons -
Bigger screens could lead to graphics looking bad.
Bigger screens could also lead to the 3D spot being harder to find.
No second circle pad. Compensated by the touch screen.
Larger size depletes purpose of being a portable system.

EDIT: Here's a great article from IGN - http://au.ign.com/articles/2012/06/25/breaking-down-nintendos-3ds-xl

Not sure why terminology bothers you. Nintendo has always been like that.

I'll be getting an XL soon. Expect a short review on the system.
